Using the Catalog

The Sofia Library online catalog is your primary tool for finding books on the shelves of our library.

It can also be used to find other research materials, including videos, DVDs, audio recordings, and ebooks.

There are three search options:

Simple Search, Browse Search, and Power Search.

We typically advise using Browse Search as it allows you to search by a specific category such as 'Author', 'Title', 'Subject', etc.

Search results appear in alphabetical order beginning with the nearest field matching the information you entered.

When you find an item you'd like to obtain, be sure to pay attention to the location, call number, and status as listed in the catalog.

The location lists where in the library the item can be found.

The call number indicates where on the shelf to look.

The status shows the availability of the item.

Finding Books at a Distance

There are two primary ways to find books if you are at a distance.

WorldCat.org is an online resource for books, articles, and more.

Abbreviated from the words "world catalog" it is a comprehensive online catalog listing items found in libraries worldwide.

Worldcat can be accessed directly from the web or from the link above.

Obtaining books from your local libraries using this resource saves you time, effort, and money.

Since Worldcat is easy to use and free, we highly recommend it!

ebrary is a another source for books that can be quickly obtained.

It is a database of over 70,000 electronic books from many academic fields.

Unlike WorldCat, you must have Sofia University affiliation, so visit ebrary through the library's Access Online Databases page.

It can be found by scrolling down to the 'E-Books' section of the webpage.
